Creating programmes
Put sessions together into a programme, check the load, and assign the programme to the client with the sessions placed on days.
Two ways to create programmes
- In the library (Training → Programme): This is where you create programmes you want to reuse. You get plenty of room on screen, can filter and search, and the programme can be copied to as many clients as you like.
- Directly on the client: Open the client card, go to Training and create or adapt the programme there. This suits programmes tailored to a single client. You have less room on screen, but the changes reach the client straight away.
Structure: programme and sessions
The hierarchy is important to understand:
- Exercise: A single movement with sets, reps, tempo and intensity.
- Session: A collection of exercises done on one day, for example “Upper body A”.
- Programme: Several sessions put together into a weekly system, adapted to the client’s goals, frequency and total training volume.
A session cannot be added to a client on its own. It has to be part of a programme, and the client must have an active programme to see anything in the app. See the guide Creating sessions for how to build the sessions themselves.
How to build a programme
Go to Training → Programme and tap New programme. The settings dialogue opens automatically: give the programme a name, level, type, goal, number of sessions per week and duration. These are used for filtering and for the client's progress page.
Add sessions on the days they should be performed. You can fetch sessions from the library (only sessions marked as active are shown in the list), copy from the public library, or create a new session directly in the programme.
Reuse sessions across weeks. A session you have added in week 1 can be copied to weeks 2, 3 and 4, so you don’t have to build it again.
Adjust the order, rest days and progression for each week if you want variation.
Save. The programme is now in your library and can be assigned to clients.
Estimated load
Once you have a first draft, PT Pro shows the estimated load for the programme: how many sets per muscle group the client gets each week. Use it to check the programme against the goal:
- Is there enough volume for the muscle groups the client wants to prioritise?
- Is anything over- or underrepresented during the week?
- Is the load evenly spread across the sessions, or does it all end up on one day?
The load updates as you add or remove exercises, so you can adjust until the balance is right.
Settings on two levels
There are settings at both session and programme level, and both need to be in place:
- Session level: Name, description, session type, estimated duration and any instructions the client should see before the session starts.
- Programme level: Start date, duration, whether sessions should repeat, and whether the programme is active.
Adding a programme to a client
Open the client card and go to Training.
Tap Add programme and choose a programme from the library, or create a new one directly on the client. You can also add a programme to one or more clients directly from the library.
Set a start and end date. The programme is copied to the client, so changes you make here don’t affect the template in the library.
Schedule the sessions on specific days. This is what makes the session show up in the client’s calendar, and what lets PT Pro measure adherence (completed sessions against planned ones).
Check that the programme is set to active. The client sees it in the app right away.
Multiple programmes on the same client
- The client can have several active programmes at the same time, for example a strength programme and a running programme. The client switches between them by tapping the programme title in the app.
- Programmes with start and end dates one after another transition automatically, so you can prepare the next phase in advance.
- If you want to keep individual sessions hidden from the client (travel session, rehab, reserve), you can set the session as invisible in the programme. It remains there for you, but is not visible to the client.
Key points to remember
- Build sessions in the library, put them together into programmes, and assign the programme to the client.
- A session can never be assigned on its own. It must be part of an active programme.
- Use the estimated load to balance volume per muscle group.
- Set the options at both session and programme level, and mark the programme as active. The client only sees active programmes.
- Schedule the sessions on days. Without that, you get no adherence statistics for the client.
- Programmes from the library are copied to the client, so you can adapt them freely without breaking the template.
